Many people in Honduras lack clean water, resulting in a high incidence of water-borne diseases.
Enersol used solar power to bring clean, safe, water to 39 families in the village of El Fortin, in the Choluteca region. A solar pump lifts water into a large village tank. The water is piped round the village to communal taps at various points, and a few private taps. The villagers were trained to carry out basic maintenance and troubleshooting, and could call on a local PV technician when needed. Each family paid a monthly fee of about US$3 to cover the cost of maintenance and repair.
