Headlines on transport are often dominated by how the country, and cities in particular, will manage the transition to electric vehicles (EVs). But congestion is a persistent problem with health and economic costs; one which EVs won’t lessen. Cities also face a dramatically increased burden of pollution from the ever-growing fleet of vans delivering our online shopping and groceries. So there remains an urgent need to look at broader ways of tackling congestion and air quality.
We have gathered leaders from politics, business and the NGOs to discuss the urgent need for change. Modal shift is the aim, getting people and deliveries out of cars and vans through increased use of public transport, walking and cycling. These modes of travel should still meet their needs, be well connected and affordable, but should also help to reduce pollution and congestion, and improve health.
With funding going to devolved city regions on transport, and the ability to look holistically at budgets, this event will explore some of the barriers to shifting modes of transport, as well as the huge opportunities it presents and the role that city leaders can play.
Discussion will be followed by cheese and wine and lively conversation with policy makers, funders, investors and sustainability experts.
Chaired by Chris Large, senior partner at Global Action Plan, the panel will include:

• Caroline Pidgeon, London Assembly Member and Chair of the Transport Committee
• Isabel Dedring, Global Transport Leader, Arup.
• Rob King, Co-founder and Director, Zedify (longlisted for a 2019 Ashden Award)
• Cllr Clyde Loakes, Deputy Leader, Waltham Forest Council (longlisted for a 2019 Ashden Award)
