Councils are under pressure to tackle the climate and biodiversity emergencies, while also delivering a green recovery from coronavirus. They need to act fast, with practical solutions that bring everyday benefits such as better jobs and clean air, as well as lower emissions.
These proven climate solutions already exist. Right now they are unlocking greener transport, warmer homes, improved community cohesion and much more. But local authorities are under pressure with limited resources, and sometimes lack the skills and expertise to create change. We don’t have time for councils to learn in isolation or act alone.
That’s why Ashden created three regional local authority learning hubs, identifying successful initiatives and showing how they can be quickly adapted and implemented locally.
This seminar will present key findings from the learning hubs that Ashden ran with local authorities and stakeholders from the North East earlier this year to share our learning to date on green procurement and social wealth building for local authorities.
We’ll present examples of how different local authorities in the North East are making their procurement greener, helping to deliver against net zero targets, and create local economic opportunity, skills and jobs at the same time.
We’ll look at the frameworks that need to be in place from design to evaluation of commissioning goods and services with the first regionally developed set of TOMS, we’ll hear about newly developed toolkits and guidance for local authorities, consider the role and importance of social wealth building and circular economy and look at market readiness.
We’ll have presentations from (amongst others) NEPO (North East Procurement Organisation), Eunomia and Surrey County Council, and there will also be an opportunity to ask questions.
