You’ll discover innovation tackling fuel poverty, and protecting communities from extreme weather. Explore schemes creating stronger local economies. And see how these varied climate solutions come together to regenerate a city. Our planned itinerary includes:
- The Levenshulme Area-Based Retrofit Scheme – a project upgrading properties in one of Manchester’s most deprived neighbourhoods, while creating training and work opportunities for local people.
- Castlefield Viaduct – this 330m, Grade II listed structure once carried trains in and out of Manchester’s Great Northern Warehouse. Now it’s been transformed into an urban park.
- An evening reception hosted by Greater Manchester Combined Authority
Our ‘seeing is believing’ tour will showcase ambitious projects from Manchester’s city-region authority and local social enterprises, developed with local communities. You’ll meet the people behind these scalable solutions, and see their impact first-hand. And you’ll learn the value of an inclusive and ‘place-based’ approach; tailoring work to local priorities, and delivering a wide range of social benefits.
Your fellow guests will be a select group of policymakers and funders. So as well as exploring inspiring solutions, we will discuss how these schemes (and others like them) can be expanded in Manchester and beyond. The day will end with a networking reception. There, senior staff from Ashden and Greater Manchester Combined Authority will explain more about how these great projects are contributing to a greener, fairer city.
