Presenting the 2022 Ashden Awards.

Laura is a broadcast meteorologist, who has been reporting on storms, hurricanes & severe weather for over 15 years. In that time, Laura and her audience has noticed how often meteorological records are being consistently broken closer and closer to home. The culprit: Climate Change.

She has been informing the audience of the latest climate reports and records around the world showing how the impact of climate change is accelerating. Laura has written a book called ‘Everyday ways to save our planet’ to help people ‘make a difference’. No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.

Musician, producer, visual artist and activist first came to international prominence in the early seventies as a founding member of British band, Roxy Music, followed by a series of solo albums and collaborations. His work as producer includes albums with Talking Heads, U2, Laurie Anderson, James and Coldplay, while his long list of collaborations include recordings with David Bowie, Jon Hassell, Harold Budd, John Cale, James Blake and recently with his brother, Roger, on Mixing Colours. His latest album, ‘FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE’ was released on the 14th October 2022.

He is a founding member of the Long Now Foundation, a trustee of Client Earth and patron of Videre est Credere. In April 2021, he launched EarthPercent, which raises money from the music industry for some of the most impactful environmental charities working on the climate emergency.

Mariama Kamara is the Founder & Director of Smiling Through Light, which provides clean, reliable & Sustainable energy in Sierra Leone. She started the company after a trip to Sierra Leone in 2011, on a placement with Restless Development as a SRH Curriculum Development Technical Assistant. She has worked with organisations such as SciDev.Net, African Health Policy Network, VSO, DFID, SIDA, African Development Association for Progress, Restless Development, UN and Africa UK in contributing towards the development of Africa. She has always been interested in development issues especially on poverty, energy, education, sexual and reproductive health and HIV issues relating to women and young people.

Mosi Conde is a master musician, multi-instrumentalist, composer and performer. Originally from Guinea, he is a Griot and was taught by his mother to play from a very young age and he has played professionally since he was a teenager. He has played alongside many world famous artists, many being extended family members, like Mory Kante, Diamond Fingers Diabate, Ami Koita and has played at major venues and Festivals including the Royal Festival Hall, Womad and Africa Express.

Performing a live poetry reading.

Rakaya Fetuga is a poet and writer based in North-West London. Rakaya is a former Roundhouse Resident Artist and Poetry Slam winner as well as being a Barbican Young Poet alumna. Published in Letters to the Earth: Writing to a Planet in Crisis, Rakaya has written for the BBC, Bloomberg Philanthropies with Vanity Fair and C40 Cities, amongst others.
