Ashden has launched its 2022 Award for natural climate solutions. The award seeks ground-breaking initiatives helping indigenous rainforest communities earn a decent and sustainable living. Higher, more reliable incomes empower people to protect themselves and their forests – which are a vital defence against climate change.
This award will shine a light on some of the most important work happening in this area, helping attract the attention of funders and promoting the replication of highly successful initiatives. It is supported by the UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Ashden Award winners receive publicity, connection to funders and policymakers, and a cash grant.
Ashden’s first award for natural climate solutions was won in 2020 by Rede de Sementes do Xingu. Its seed collection network helps communities in the Amazon earn an income while restoring forests and enhancing biodiversity.
In 2021, the award was won by Mbou Mon Tour. The organisation helps rainforest communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo make a sustainable living through agriculture and tourism.
