Ashden has announced Ashok Sinha – currently CEO of the London Cycling Campaign – as its next CEO.
Ashden’s awards, campaigns, networks and analysis boost climate action and innovation in the UK and Global South. The charity’s work includes widening access to clean and affordable energy, empowering UK schools and local authorities to reach net zero carbon emissions, and accelerating natural climate solutions around the world.
Ashden Founder and Chair of Trustees Sarah Butler-Sloss said: “Myself, the Ashden team and our trustees are delighted to announce that our next CEO will be Ashok Sinha. Ashok brings with him a wealth of experience in environmental, sustainable development and justice issues in the UK and the Global South, having worked in these areas for over 30 years.
“His achievements include a PhD in renewable energy, and driving landmark campaigns such as Make Poverty History, The Jubilee Debt Campaign and Stop Climate Chaos (now the Climate Coalition). More recently, he has led transformational work making London a healthier and greener city, as CEO of the London Cycling Campaign and the Chair of the London Sustainable Development Commission.
“Ashok has the deep understanding and expertise to help Ashden meet its ambitious mission to accelerate transformative climate solutions and build a more just world.”
Dr Sinha will start his role at the London-based charity in June, when he will replace interim CEO Giles Bristow, Ashden’s Director of Programmes.
”I’m thrilled and honoured to be appointed as Ashden’s next CEO, and to be given the opportunity build on the fantastic progress that the previous CEO, staff and trustees have achieved. Ashden does vitally important work to address the existential threat of the climate emergency, through a relentless focus on accelerating and scaling up socially just solutions; I hugely look forward to working with all those connected to Ashden to generate even greater impact in future.”
