This year a new Ashden programme will help councils, community groups and non-profit organisations in North-West England deliver nature-based solutions to the impacts of climate change.
Resilient Roots will offer workshops, events and insights, all supporting organisations to prepare for and respond to growing challenges like flooding and extreme heat. The programme will also inspire policymakers to create more effective support for nature-based solutions – initiatives such as strategic tree planting, park and wetland restoration, and drainage schemes. Resilient Roots is supported by the Lund Trust.
Could you be a mentor in nature-based adaptation?
A peer-to-peer mentoring initiative will be at the heart of this programme. We are now searching for mentors with experience in this area: individuals who can give their time in 2025 to support less-experienced organisations on their learning and development journey. Each mentee will receive up to three days’ support, and mentors could potentially support multiple mentees.
The day-rate for mentors will be £300 (including VAT). Support can be given in face-to-face meetings and sessions or online, depending on the needs of the mentee organisation. It is not essential that mentors are based in North-West England, but knowledge of the region would be an advantage.
Further information about the programme and the role of its mentors is in the Resilient Roots Mentor handbook. To be considered for this opportunity, please complete the mentor application form and send it to Matthew Ahluwalia, Senior Programme Officer, Ashden (Matthew.Ahluwalia@ashden.org). We aim to begin offering mentoring opportunities in March, but may be looking to grow our pool of mentors later in 2025.
Seeking support to deliver nature-based adaptation?
Applications to receive support from one of our mentors will open to councils, community groups and non-profit organisations in North-West England next month.
The first of four free online workshops for organisations looking to take action in this area (or strengthen existing work) will also take place next month, on Tuesday 25 March from 10am -12 pm. These sessions will share case studies and examples of best practice, as well as insights on common challenges – such as engaging communities, working in partnership and securing funding. They will also create opportunities for networking and collaboration.
You can register to attend the first session here. To register interest in becoming a mentee, contact Matthew Ahluwalia, Senior Programme Officer, Ashden (Matthew.Ahluwalia@ashden.org).
