This month we
named our 2019 Ashden Award winners – 10 outstanding enterprises tackling
climate change while building a better, fairer society for all of us.
Our ceremony
at the Royal Geographical Society on July 3 featured a keynote speech by
climate leader and former President of Ireland Mary Robinson.
She said two
voluntary frameworks agreed by countries around the world – the Paris Climate
Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals – must be implemented in full, following
calls from scientists for more urgent action.
She added: “We
have to have a safe world for our children and grandchildren and generations to
come… It’s beginning to happen – we are beginning to see a
broad movement.” She praised youth activists, Extinction Rebellion and women
leaders for driving change.
